18 Gramercy Park

Anyone fortunate to see inside the new 18 Gramercy park New York luxury development is immediately surrounded by an impeccable display of contemporary design, and elegance. Zeckendorf Development and Robert A.M. Stern Architects have done an amazing job of restoring this 1927 building into a gracious new parkside home in the city.

Where to buy American made building products

Made-in-America logo

Want to build a house made entirely from American-made building products?

Everything from the nails, screws and bolts, to the steel, staples and bathtub is made in the United States. In all there are more than 120 products from more than 33 states. However, the builders do acknowledge that using American products can be more expensive.

A box of nails is $5 more than those made in China and steel is $146 more a bundle. Even though certain goods are more expensive, in total, the cost of the house is nearly identical. Currently, the all-American home, which is not yet finished , is running only 1 to 2 percent more than a foreign-sourced house.

In Bozeman, Montana, Anders Lewendal is hard at work building a home he hopes will be a blueprint for creating jobs in America. Lewendal is convinced that if every builder bought just 5 percent more American materials it would create 220,000 jobs.

Here’s the list of products Lewendal is using to build the Made in America house.

Small & cozy New York apartment

Dan & Dasha Faires originally of Arkansas, one of the most adorable and talented design couples coming out of New York. Dan is a sorely missed colleague of the Wellbuilt team and is blazing quite an impressive trail with his design business & rustic furniture collection "capsule furniture."

Dasha comes with a depth of experience in the fashion industry and has obviously rubbed off on her partner looking at the latest summer collection. Have a closer look into their small but but beautiful New York apartment over at HGTV. Photos by Brian Patrick Flynn.

Kings County Distillery

Here's a charming space we dropped in at the other week with our crew from Green Painting. Its the first Bourbon distillery to hit New York since the prohibition. Brothers Oliver and Evan Haslegrave from the Brooklyn based design firm Home did a magnificent job on the interiors as Nick and Green Painting were in charge of applying the beautiful color on the walls. Kings County Distillery located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard will be open for public tours in the months to come. Looking forward to coming back in the near future for the grand opening. Photos by Jimmy Pham.

Post Green Homes

Imagine a housing unit comprised of green sustainable building materials, wellbuilt, well designed, environmentally sound, and affordable. Our team came across this wonderful environmentally conscious company based out of Philadelphia providing just that. Post Green Homes was established in 2009 by Chad and Courtney Ludeman who originally set out to own an affordable green home. The bi-product of their search lead them to establish Post Green Homes as a new way of thinking "green" in this ever present economic situation. Check out what they do here.

Beached Interiors

Here's a photo of a photo from one of Richard Misrach's beach collections shot from above. Misrach's work captures a variety of  landscapes and human intervention in American settings. Great piece for a Wellbuilt apartment renovation in downtown NYC.
