AMERICAN CHESTNUT

10.00

Regarded as an American treasure for its extreme rarity after becoming an endangered species in the early twentieth century, American chestnut can only be procured as reclaimed or recycled wood. The wood is coveted for its visual depth, with colors ranging from a very light, pale brown/latte to a rich chocolate brown. The sapwood, if present, is a clean pale white or light brown. Abundant with desirable rustic character, wormwood and nail holes are often present, as are knots, checking, and complementary mineral staining. A straight grain with typical old-growth irregularities sometimes featuring charming butterfly or Dutchman patches, both flatsawn and quartersawn boards are sourced.
