Reclaimed red and white oak are incredibly popular flooring choices for homeowners, woodworkers, and green builders due to the durability, water-resistant qualities, and character inherent in this type of wood. A straight grain with typical old-growth irregularities, knots, minimal wormwood, nail holes, checking, and characteristic mineral staining, wider boards are often mended with butterfly or Dutchman patches, adding to the visual landscape. Ranging in color from almost white to a medium brown with an underlying reddish tone (with ray flecking less apparent than in white oak), these mixed flatsawn and quartersawn boards can be ordered as a single type (red or white oak), a mix of both, or as a skip-planed floor.
